Join a fun, hands-on educational opportunity for families! Keeping our watershed healthy takes a lot of people and effort.
We all enjoy our streams, rivers, and lakes. People of all ages can contribute to that by doing basic water quality measurements, and even habitat assessments – collecting aquatic invertebrates to identify – another indicator of stream health.
Why are waterways important?
- They provide travel corridors for people and animals
- Fishing, subsistence
- Tourism, economic development
- They are a habitat for many creatures, including baby salmon
How do I get involved?
- For our Homer area families- your training day is Friday, March 24th, from 11am-12pm. RSVP HERE for that event.
- Can’t make it? Don’t worry, the recorded training will be available on our website.
- Stream testing tools are available for check-out at the Connections office, just stop by!
- Use the tools to conduct water quality sampling at a local water body of your choice on your own schedule.
- This is a good activity to do on a regular basis, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Keep track of your data and make observations about the health of your stream or lake! Talk to your advisor about the many ways you can integrate this activity into all of your homeschool subjects!
