LESSON DESCRIPTION: The philosophy taught is that all students grow into independent learners. The principles behind each skill allow students to apply concepts accross contexts. The methods used are Alfred and Faber and Faber Piano Adventures. Students are taught note reading, chord theory, ear-training, improvisation, music history, and sight reading. Students are required to verbalize their understanding of the principles and have reasons to back up their knowledge. This use of active recall and application promotes a deep, multi-faceted understanding of the subject matter.
