Alaska Science Assessment
How do we know if our students are learning? Alaska’s assessment system is an important part of the answer.
- Assessments are a tool for measuring what students know and what they can do.
- Alaska’s assessment system shows how knowledgeable a student is on a particular area or subject according to Alaska’s educational standards.
- Assessments are a part of providing an excellent education for every student, every day.
- Statewide assessments ensure that families, teachers, administrators, and community leaders can see how students perform across the state. The information gathered from these assessments help guide policy decisions, curriculum selection, professional learning for teachers and staff, instructional decisions, and parent support recommendations.
The Alaska Science Assessment sessions for grades 5th, 8th & 10th will be held April 11th & 13th.
There will be two sessions each day: 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm.
The test is NOT timed, so students will be able to be picked up as soon as they completed with testing in their subject area. Likewise, if a student needs more time, we will be sure to allow for that. The average testing time for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math are both 60 minutes. The average testing time for Science is about 35 minutes.
We will have some Fun Brain Games to get your brains ready for testing before each session. These will start 30 minutes prior to the test start time.
Snacks will be available for students testing.
We will have a Hospitality area for parents who would like to stay and wait at the school for their child to test.
