Forensics Performance

We are very excited to offer a Forensics Meet on February 16th at 1:30pm at the Soldotna Connections Office.

This is a fun opportunity for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders, to orally present a piece of literature to an audience. Please note- 3rd grade students do not participate in the district finals.

The first step is to select a piece of literature that fits the desired category in which you wish to participate. Keep in mind some categories (storytelling) require you to have a complete storyline while others may only be a portion of the selected piece (poetry, prose, or interpretive reading). Practice the piece so that you are able to complete the performance within the specified time limits. After you are comfortable with the piece begin to add motions, facial expressions, and voice inflection. Some students find it helpful to practice in front of a mirror or to record themselves. The more you practice the more comfortable you will be when you preform.

Judges will be using a rubric (0-5) to score each student’s interpretive reading. The scored categories are selection, delivery, vocal expression, and dramatic interpretation. The highest overall score will determine winners for each grade level and category.

The competition will take place on February 16th at the Connection’s office. Please arrive on time so that we can begin promptly at 1:40 pm. Be prepared to perform for the judges and audience. First place winners from each category in their respective grade levels will advance to the district competition on February 25th. The district competition will not be in person. Finalist submitted a video recording to the judges. 3rd graders do not participate in the district finals.

Attached is a description of each category and the requirements. Please review if you plan to participate. When you have determined your piece and category please RSVP on the link here.
